On December 6, 2022, as part of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea, the international exhibition “The Pearl of the Great Steppe” was opened at the Seoul History Museum of the Almaty Museum as part of the KGKP “Association of Almaty Museums” with the support of the Almaty Mayor's Office.
The purpose of the exhibition is to introduce the Korean audience to the history and culture of the Kazakh people. The exhibition consists of several main thematic sections, including the ethnography and history of the Zhetysu region, the musical culture of the Kazakh people and the peculiarities of Almaty's past and present appearance.
The exhibition for the Korean public features 131 exhibits specially brought from the funds of the Almaty Museum.
Kim Yongseok, Director of the Seoul History Museum, Gani Aidarovich, Head of the Department of Culture of Almaty, Gani Aidarovich, representatives of the Seoul City Council, Aisulu Ashiraliyeva and Muong Song Ho, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea Bakyt Amangeldinovich, and People's Artist of the Republic of Korea Park Jong Jae, spoke at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
During negotiations, the two museums reached an agreement to hold an exhibition by the Seoul History Museum at the Almaty Museum in 2023.
