Archaeological Park "Boralday Saki Mounds"
History of the museum
Boralday Saka Kurgans Archaeological Park
The Boraldai burial mound necropolis is located on the southeastern outskirts of the village of Boraldai on the high left bank of the Bolshaya Almatinka River and borders the Ili District of Almaty Province. The burial ground is 3 km long. The complex covers an area of 430 hectares.
The Boralday Saka Kurgans Archaeological Park includes 47 Saka burial mounds and Uysun burial mounds from the Early Iron Age.
The sizes of these mounds vary. Large mounds are called the “Tsar's Mound” because representatives of the ruling dynasty and military leaders of ancient tribes are buried there. The mounds form groups, stretching in a chain. Most of the burial mounds were looted in ancient times. The height of particularly large burial mounds reaches 10-14 m and the diameter is 80-150 m.
The Boralday Saka Kurgans Archaeological Park is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of local importance.
