Our city has more than a thousand years of history. People have settled here since ancient times. Medieval Almaty, the center of the region with its own mint, appeared on the Great Silk Road route. The history of Almaty reflects the history and fate of the Kazakh people. After all, our Independence was proclaimed in Almaty and the city became the first capital of sovereign Kazakhstan. Today Almaty is the largest scientific, cultural, tourist and financial center in Kazakhstan. The country's leading cultural institutions are concentrated here. Out of 280 museums in Kazakhstan, 30 are located in Almaty.
